Meet Dr. Oh

A doctor who cares

Dr. Chris Oh is a board-certified internist on staff at Advocate and NorthShore Health Systems. Dr. Oh graduated from the combined B.A./M.D. Honor’s Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University. Upon completion of medical school and residency, he started a private practice in internal medicine in the Chicago North Shore area. In addition to primary care medicine, he specializes in sports and work-related injuries and runs a medical weight loss program.

During medical school, Dr. Oh took some time off to study subatomic particle physics at Caltech, obtaining a Masters degree in physics. He is passionate about K-12 science education and is currently working with Northwestern University to bring inquiry based teaching models to schools in the North Shore area. He is also working with an NGO in Guatemala (Asociación Vida) to develop maths curriculum for 3 elementary schools in rural areas of Tecpan and Patzun.

In collaboration with Willow Creek Community Church, Dr. Oh has developed a model of sustainable healthcare system that trains local midwives and health promoters. This system is currently yielding great results in rural Mayan communities of Guatemala. By innovative use of IT, he has also pioneered a method of teaching obstetric ultrasound remotely to rural clinics. In 2015 Dr. Oh began a multi-year project with Guatemala’s Ministry of Health to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by bringing obstetric ultrasound capabilities to 7 of the 24 clinics in the district of Quetzaltenango.

On a personal note, Dr. Oh was born in South Korea, and grew up in Singapore and Malaysia. He is fluent in Korean and can converse in French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Malay. He is married with two children and lives in the Chicago North Shore area.
